6 Edinburgh Napier University : Craighouse Campus
The University has confirmed the sale of its Craighouse Campus to a consortium led by Sundial Properties, an Edinburgh-based company that specialises in restoration of listed buildings for residential use. Other members of the consortium are Mountgrange Investment Management LLP, and LA & P. Sundial already has vacant possession of parts of the campus, and the remaining staff and students will move to the Merchiston campus during AY 2012-2013.
The proposed redevelopment, that will be subject to a consultation process, is based around a detailed conservation audit carried out by leading conservation architects Simpson and Brown, and includes the restoration of the site’s seven Category A listed buildings, totalling 140,000 sq ft, for residential use. A range of discretely placed new homes is also proposed, designed to complement the existing buildings and landscape. Public access will remain available to the grounds, and to the woodland areas around the buildings, which are included in the sale; it is intended that this latter area will become a community-managed resource
Sundial will mount an exhibition as a central part of the consultation process and has invited MHA to contribute to this, in particular with personal recollections. If you might like to be involved, please let us know.
